Summer Reading: A Few Books we Love!

Our library is doing a fun summer reading program that EG has really gotten into!  The theme for the summer is "One World:  Many Stories".  They have tons of activities including a passport that you can have stamped at each library branch, puppet shows, storytime, crafts galore, and an online summer reading log with password for all kids.  They also give each participating kiddo a BINGO card with an activity to complete for each square (i.e. read a book outside, read a book about a different country, read a book about a place you would like to visit, etc.).  We have had so much fun, and I thought I'd share some of my daughter's favorite books we've read so far!  On our log we have 92 books, so far, and these were some of her favorites (click on the book covers to be taken to the Amazon link):

She has fallen in love with the Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa series (6 books)!  These are a great introduction to chapter books and each chapter is actually able to read as its own story.  The chapters are short, the characters are likable, and my little one loves them!  I'd definitely recommend this series for any little ones who loves horses, or just loves to read :)

Okay, even I love all of these books...but Miss Lina's Ballerinas is one of my personal favorites!  This story has sweet illustrations, fun rhyming, and has a good message.  Miss Lina's eight ballerinas have perfected the art of dancing in two rows of four...but, what happens when a new little ballerina comes along?  They soon find that three rows of three is just as fun!  Great little story for any little girl.  Easy to read and sure to delight :)

Red Sings from Treetops:  A Year in Colors is a beautifully worded and illustrated book.  It is enjoyable to read as an adult, and is a great book of colors and seasons.  It goes through each season and creatively describes the colors associated with each.  "Where is green in winter?  Green waits in the hearts of trees, feeling the earth turn."  I mean, can that be written any more beautifully?

Dream Big, Little Pig! is a sweet little book about following your dreams and never giving up.  This little pig wanted to try so many things and was told she wasn't good at any of them.  Read about how she kept trying and eventually realized she can do anything she wants!  And, you just might recognize the author's name, too :)

Stellar Stargazer is Jane O'Connor's latest Fancy Nancy book...and, for all those little Fancy Nancy lovers, this book will not disappoint!  It has quickly become my little one's favorite FN book, and the glow in the dark cover surely helps.  Sweet story about a backyard camping adventure, and filled with lots of fun facts about the sun, stars, and other things in outer space!  Love it!

That's all for now, but if you enjoyed hearing about these books, I'd be glad to share more with you!  Just leave me a comment and let me know :)  Thanks for reading!

  1. This looks like a fun little list! I have my 3 boys signed up for our local library's summer reaing program too! I often just grab about 10 books to add to the ones that they pick out. I may have hunt for some of these! I always love good suggestions because if I'm going to read a book 10+ times, it's nice if it's a good one :)

  2. Thanks so much for sharing! My daughter is about the same age and I agree with Julie - when you have to read a book over and over again, it's nice if it's a good one.
